5 Reasons You Should Book In For A Massage This Week
Hello! As a massage therapist I get to see so many different clients each week, each with different reasons for booking in. Today I’m talking about the most important benefits of massage and why you should book in for a massage this week!
MASSAGE HELPS RELIEVE STRESS & ANXIETY
We live in stressful times where we have pressure coming in from all directions – work, society, family, friends. Sometimes that’s hard to cope with and it can become detrimental on our health.
Massage stimulates the parasympathetic system in your body, which promotes relaxation. It also releases endorphins which give you a natural state of chill. This is probably the most important benefit of massage!
MASSAGE INCREASES YOUR QUALITY OF SLEEP
Insomnia is on the rise, and not getting enough “deep sleep” each night plays havoc with your physical body as well as your mental state. Massage not only slows the breath down (a side effect of relaxation) but also increases serotonin which in turn, increases melatonin. It’s the melatonin which helps re-set your sleep pattern (and this is why air crew swear by the supplements for jet lag!)
For added sleep inducing goodness, ask your therapist to add some lavender oil into the blend (but check they are a qualified Aromatherapist first!)
MASSAGE DECREASES PAIN
We’ve all got aches and pains, many due to bad posture caused by driving in the wrong position and sitting slumped at a desk 9-5. Massage can loosen tight muscles, increasing their flexibility and allowing more oxygen to reach them.
A firm head, neck and shoulder massage will help to relieve headaches and soothe away any tension in the upper back.
MASSAGE MAKES YOU HEALTHIER
Massage helps the body to remove toxins by increasing lymphatic drainage (this is why your sweat or urine may smell a little after a massage! Drink lots of water to flush it out!) White blood cells are also increased which helps strengthen your immune system to fight off infections.
MASSAGE HELPS YOUR SKIN LOOK AMAZING
A lesser know benefit of massage but your skin will thnka you for booking in! Your skin is your largest organ, and you want to treat it right! Using nourishing oils such as avocado or peach kernel, can increase your skin’s elasticity and tone.
Improving your circulation also increases cell regeneration, helping scars heal faster. Your colour will also be fresher and as the sebum increases, it will become more supple. We’re talking the perfect summer skin!
Obviously the more often you see your therapist, the greater the benefits of massage are, but do not underestimate the power of self massage techniques!
