You may identify yourself as an empath, or maybe you’ve never thought about it before, but feeling other people’s emotions (both good and bad) can be overwhelming and exhausting at the best of times.

Office disputes, world politics, even overhearing arguments can imprint on us. This kind of sensitivity is a gift, but when it gets too much you can easily bring yourself back to earth with these grounding techniques.

EARTHING

Earthing is one of the best grounding techniques for empaths. Take off your shoes and stand or lay on some grass for as long as you can, letting the earth hold you. With your feet flat on the ground, imagine roots coming down from the soles of your feet, deep into the earth and gripping on to rocks. Instant grounding!

CRYSTALS

With celebrities such as Victoria Beckham, Gigi Hadid and Adele as fans of their rocks, they are an easy way to keep you in the now.

An easy way to remember which stones are grounding is they are generally black (black absorbs energy easily) so Haematite, Black Obsidian or Black Tourmaline are perfect.

You can put the stones next to your desk, wear them or carry them in your purse or pocket.

ESSENTIAL OILS

Using essential oils is a wonderful way to ground yourself. At home or in the office, you can diffuse the oils in an oil diffuser, create an oil blend to rub on your pulse points or add a few drops to a tissue and inhale.

The oils best for grounding your root chakra are patchouli, sandalwood and rosewood.

WATER

Firstly, drinking water is incredibly important when feeling ungrounded or lightheaded. Our bodies are made up of approximately 60% water, so even a little dehydration can affect us greatly.

Taking a bath with Epsom or Himalayan Salt is an amazingly relaxing way to re-ground and re-charge. Add a few handfuls into your bath or scrub yourself with some in the shower. If you’re lucky enough to live near the beach, get yourself in the water pronto!

MEDITATION

Meditation and visualisation are brilliant techniques for empaths to ground themselves. As mentioned above, visualising roots coming down from your feet is very powerful, as is seeing yourself being weighed down by rocks in your pockets. You can download a free 20 minute guided visualisation here.
